Overview
A potent shortwave trough will enter the U.S. from the Pacific this upcoming weekend, setting the stage for a period of severe weather next week. As the trough digs into the southwestern U.S., temperatures will trend upward from the Great Plains eastward late weekend and early next week.
Highlights
The western U.S. will experience temperatures on the cooler side late weekend, as above average temperatures extend along and east of the Rockies.
The trough will slowly move eastward, such that the cooler air will spill into the Rockies and Southwest by early next week, while temperatures remain toasty eastward.
The Rockies, Cascades, and Sierra Nevada will likely pick up decent snowfall accumulations late weekend into early next week.
Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes will pose a risk across the Southern Plains and Mid-South early to mid next week.
In the coming days, we’ll certainly keep you in the loop on the severe weather risk.
